Results in Thailand

Thailand faces key challenges related to population changes sparked by socioeconomic development. A low birth rate is straining human resources for future development, while rapid urbanization is shifting family structures. Centrally located in Southeast Asia, Thailand has also welcomed millions of foreign migrants. UNFPA initiatives help to address the various challenges, with special attention given to the needs of young people amid a high number of adolescent pregnancies.

Result achieved in 2024

1

The Prevention and Management of Adolescent Pregnancy Act (B.E. 2559, 2016) was operationalized with specific recommendations for vulnerable young people

2

Key policy instruments were developed, including the National Fertility Policy and a “Digital First” Census Preparation Guideline for online participation that incorporates National Transfer Accounts methodology to understand the economic impacts of population change

3

The universal health coverage package was enhanced to include services for gender-based violence survivors, with a communications strategy implemented nationally and provincially

4

National standard operating procedures for One Stop Crisis Centres were established

5

Three digital platforms were launched: “I D-Sign” youth advocate curriculum, “Teen Club” for family planning, and “SoSafe” providing information on sexual and reproductive health and rights and gender-based violence prevention

6

Four South–South exchanges conducted with eight countries on sexual and reproductive health and rights including family planning, adolescent pregnancy prevention and gender-based violence, along with National Transfer Accounts methodologies
