Tanzania Humanitarian Emergency

Tanzania hosts more than 200,000 refugees and asylum seekers from Burundi and the Democratic Republic of the Congo in Nyarugusu, Nduta, and Mtendeli camps in Kigoma region. Refugees live in crowded conditions and face many challenges in meeting their basic needs such as food, health and hygiene. Women and girls also face increased risks of gender-based violence, early marriage and early pregnancy. UNFPA supports the Tanzania Red Cross Society and International Rescue Committee to respond to people’s sexual and reproductive health needs and provide GBV prevention and response services in Nyarugusu and Mtendeli camps.
