UNFPA Supplies Partnership
257 million women who want to avoid pregnancy are not using modern contraceptives. Too many are being left behind at a time when the transformative impact of family planning is not only well-known but also achievable.
The UNFPA Supplies Partnership delivers a choice of modern contraceptives and life-saving maternal health medicines into the hands of adolescents and women who need them most. How do we do it? Through strategic country-led actions to reach the last mile. Dedicated to accountability and the effective use of resources, the Partnership strengthens supply chains and reproductive health services.
We are a Partnership to save and improve lives
Since our launch, 2008 through 2020, UNFPA Supplies is estimated to have prevented:
- 89 million unintended pregnancies
- 26.8 million unsafe abortions
- 254,000 maternal deaths
- 1.6 million child deaths
(These are the results of the UNFPA Supplies programme only, not UNFPA as a whole.)
The programme enters its third phase, 2021 to 2030, aligned with the UN Decade of Action, Sustainable Development Goals, and UNFPA transformative results – focused particularly on ending the unmet need for family planning. Every woman, adolescent girl and young person should be able to choose from and use a range of quality family planning methods, no matter where she lives.
Every Partner has a role in our Country Compact
We are a partnership of national governments, donors, non-governmental organizations, implementing partners, civil society organizations and other United Nations agencies working together to support countries in their efforts to overcome barriers to family planning and set the stage for sustainability. Country compacts define roles and responsibilities and create greater transparency and accountability, with the ultimate goal of ensuring deeper and stronger engagement by countries and their partners across the Partnership. We are working towards the same key outcome: Women and girls are able to access and use a choice of quality reproductive health commodities, including contraceptives for family planning, whenever they want or need them.
Participating countries in the UNFPA Supplies Partnership
We work with some of the world’s lowest-income countries where maternal death rates are high, modern contraceptive use is low and economic indicators demonstrate pressing need.
