World Refugee Day
In May 2022, the world reached a sobering milestone: the number of forcibly displaced people globally surpassed 100 million, or more than 1 per cent of the world’s population and equivalent to the 14th most populous country on the planet, according to the United Nations Refugee Agency. The theme of this year’s World Refugee Day is the right to seek safety, which includes safe borders, not forcing anyone back if doing so would jeopardize their life or freedom and non-discriminatory, humane treatment.

Rhythms of Resistance
UNFPA is once more partnering with the UN Department of Global Communications and UNESCO for an online cultural event in celebration of the International Day of Remembrance of Slavery and the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade. This year the day is celebrated under the theme - "Stories of Courage, Resistance to Slavery and Unity against Racism."
