Lebanon-Syria: Thousands of Pregnant Women Fleeing Lebanon Face Dire Conditions in Syria

Damascus/New York 1 April 2026 — Some 3,100 pregnant women are among the more than 202,400 people who have fled Lebanon to cross into Syria since the escalation of conflict in the Middle East in early March. Some 350 of these women are expected to give birth within the next 30 days.

Sixth UNFPA-supported Medical Facility in Ukraine attacked this year

Kyiv/ New York, 1 April 2026 — On 31 March, attacks on Sloviansk City damaged a United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) supported maternity hospital, marking the sixth time this year that a UNFPA-supported health facility in Ukraine has been damaged. A previous strike on Odesa on 28 March damaged another maternity hospital supported by UNFPA, placing dozens of patients, newborns and medical staff at risk.

Funding Gaps in Eastern Chad Threaten Essential Protection for Women and Girls

New York – March 30, 2026 – The war in Sudan continues to drive a massive influx of refugees and returnees into eastern Chad, causing widespread suffering and forced displacement. More than 918,000 people have found refuge in Chad as of 23 March, bringing the total number of displaced people in the country to close to 2.2 million, a staggering 87% of them women and children.

NEW YORK, 26 March 2026 — War-related disruptions to major global transport routes in the Middle East are delaying the delivery of lifesaving reproductive health supplies for women and girls in humanitarian crises around the world, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) warned today. Even short delays can mean women giving birth without skilled care, survivors of rape missing the critical window for treatment, or health facilities lacking essential equipment.
