Launch of the UNFPA Humanitarian Action 2024 Overview

07 December 2023

Members of the press are invited to attend the virtual launch of the UNFPA Humanitarian Action 2024 Overview on Tuesday, 12 December 2023, from 10:00 to 11:00 am EST.

UNFPA is appealing for $1.2 billion in 2024 to provide reproductive health services and run gender-based violence programmes for 48 million women, girls, and young people in 58 countries in humanitarian crises.

In 2023 the world was ravaged by climate emergencies,  outbreaks of conflict, and the deepening of multiple complex crises. Some 114 million people were displaced in just the first half of 2023, half of whom are women and girls, who have unique vulnerabilities related to their reproductive health and safety. Next year, 2024, promises grim prospects for them if leaders do not do more to address humanitarian suffering the world over.

Chaired by UNFPA Executive Director Dr. Natalia Kanem, and including a keynote speech by UNFPA Goodwill Ambassador Ashley Judd, the event will bring together donors and partners committed to safeguarding the health, safety, dignity, and rights of women and girls. Speakers will highlight humanitarian reproductive health and protection needs in 2024 and showcase UNFPA's humanitarian achievements in 2023.
