Executive Board of UNDP, UNFPA and UNOPS: Annual session 2023

05 June 2023

New York

“This is no time to step back,” UNFPA Executive Director Dr. Natalia Kanem said last year at the annual session of the Executive Board of UNDP, UNFPA and UNOPS, describing how conflict, climate crises and COVID-19 had hindered progress for women and girls. “Instead, it’s a time to forge ahead.”

At this year’s annual session, which will be held from 5–9 June, progress will be a key focus, with Dr. Kanem speaking at the UNFPA segment of the session on 8 June. Subsequent morning topics for UNFPA will include a progress report on the implementation of the UNFPA Strategic Plan, 2022–2025, a report on the recommendations of the Joint Inspection Unit in 2022, and a financial review, among others.

Afternoon topics will include an evaluation of UNFPA support for population dynamics and data, an evaluation of UNFPA support for adolescents and youth, and the presentation and approval of country programme documents, among others.

The Executive Board provides intergovernmental support and supervision of the activities of UNDP, UNFPA and UNOPS, in accordance with the policy guidance of the General Assembly, the Economic and Social Council, and the United Nations Charter. The board ensures that UNDP, UNFPA and UNOPS remain responsive to the evolving needs of programme countries, and supports the work of UNFPA in delivering a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every birth is safe, and every young person's potential is fulfilled.
