The year 2024 is a time of many milestones for UNFPA. It marks the 30-year review of implementation of the International Conference on Population and Development Programme of Action, and will also see the Mid-Term Review of the UNFPA Strategic Plan 2022–2025 and the UN Summit of the Future. These milestones are taking place against a backdrop of increasing humanitarian crises, a changing geopolitical context, growing inequalities, climate impacts, a rise in disinformation and continued pushback against sexual and reproductive health and rights.

On 27 February 2024, UNFPA Executive Director Dr. Natalia Kanem convened senior UNFPA leaders to discuss different ways to accelerate progress on sexual and reproductive health and rights. As part of this discussion, activist and founder of the #MeToo movement Tarana J. Burke joined Dr. Kanem for a conversation on the power of alliances as a pathway to acceleration. The conversation covered topics such as good allyship, community-building and youth engagement. The recording of their conversation can be accessed here.
