To mark the 30th anniversary of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD30), UNFPA is delighted to invite you to the first conversation of the “Let’s Talk!” series, with the theme of “30 years of the ICPD: An inter-generational conversation on bodily autonomy.” The monthly virtual talks offer a dedicated space for stakeholders, including civil-society members and young people, to engage in dialogue on ICPD issues.

This talk will be an inter-generational conversation that connects the historical significance of the ICPD Programme of Action with the present-day need for action and outlines a roadmap for the future. The conversation will provide a space to:

  • Reflect on how the progressive agenda came into being, with a special focus on the role of women’s movements.
  • Take stock of the progress made over the last 30 years, with a focus on the agency and decision-making capacity of women and girls.
  • Discuss strategies to address forces that push back on bodily autonomy of women and girls.
  • Position the ICPD agenda for the future.

Opening and closing remarks will be delivered by Ian McFarlane, Director, Division of Communications and Strategic Partnerships, UNFPA, and Arthur Erken, Director, Policy and Strategy Division, UNFPA.

Among the speakers are Gita Sen, Feminist Scholar, Distinguished Professor and Director, Public Health Foundation of India; Eunice Levya Garcia, Executive Director, Youth Coalition on Sexual and Reproductive Rights; Hlobisile Masinga, Founder and Chairperson, The Pink Roses Foundation, South Africa; and Sarah Craven, Chief, North America Office, UNFPA.

The conversation will be moderated by Leyla Sharafi, Senior Gender Advisor, Gender and Human Rights Branch, UNFPA.

Interpretation will be provided in English, French and Spanish.  RSVP to register and join the conversation here
