UNFPA Türkiye Earthquake Response - Situation Report - 5 February 2024

Resource date: Feb 2024

Publisher: UNFPA Türkiye

EN

In February 2023, massive earthquakes struck eastern Türkiye, affecting 9.1 million people across 11 provinces and leaving over 3.6 million without safe homes. Today, 760,000 people, including an estimated 1.2 million women and girls of reproductive age (with 64,000 pregnant), reside in shelters. Violence against women and children is escalating in the earthquake-affected areas. Access to ante/post-natal care and family planning services remains inadequate.

Since the earthquakes, UNFPA has provided services for safe motherhood, gender-based violence protection and assistance to survivors, and supported the reconstruction of SRH facilities. As part of the United Nations Recovery and Resilience Offer for the Earthquake Response, UNFPA requires $17 million in 2024 for its life-saving humanitarian work. Only 23 percent of the appeal has been funded so far.
