In Ethiopia, conflict, displacement, climate shocks, and disease outbreaks persist as critical drivers of need. Over 20 million people require humanitarian assistance, including 4.5 million internally displaced (IDPs). In July 2023, floods, droughts, and insecurity triggered additional displacements. The compounding challenges of disease outbreaks and insecurity exacerbate the widespread food insecurity, stretching the nation's already overburdened humanitarian response.

UNFPA is providing essential SRH and GBV services to those affected, including maternal/newborn care, mental health and psychosocial support, safe spaces for women and girls, cash assistance for GBV survivors, dignity kits, and community awareness initiatives. As leaders of the GBV sub-cluster and SRH Working Groups, UNFPA coordinates and collaborates with key stakeholders on the ground. In collaboration with the Ministry of Women and Social Affairs, UNFPA pioneered Ethiopia's inaugural national consultation on GBV SOPs.
