The war in Ukraine continued to shatter the lives of millions of people across the country as fighting escalated in the east. The Ukrainian Government opened the first Survivor Relief Centre with UNFPA support in Zaporizhzhia, where survivors of conflict-related sexual violence can access a wide range of support services. Five new mobile psychosocial support teams have been deployed, bringing the total to 30, adding capacity to prevent and respond to gender-based violence (GBV) in war-affected communities of Ukraine’s Sumy, Chernihiv and Kyiv regions.
To respond to the increased needs of refugees from Ukraine, UNFPA equipped perinatal centers and medical institutions in Moldova with instruments, drugs and supplies, including for the clinical management of rape and related capacity building, while Orange Safe Spaces were opened in Belarus and training on counselling and referrals was provided.
