The Position:

The Systems Administrator position will be responsible for all server-based systems, Google Workspace based messaging & communication systems and Microsoft Office systems. Additionally, the position will be responsible for the technical architecture of the web-based application server infrastructure including middleware, database systems and the organizational directory system.

You will report directly to the Chief, Technology Services.

Job Purpose:

The Systems Administrator position belongs to UNFPA’s Information Technology Solution Office (ITSO). ITSO is responsible for managing the organization’s cloud-based server infrastructure. This infrastructure and several other SaaS solutions serves UNFPA staff located in 125+ countries. This position is responsible for providing systems administration services for the server infrastructure and the SaaS solutions.

Qualifications and Experience  

Education:  

An advanced university degree in Computer Science Management, Computer Science or related field. 

Knowledge and Experience: 

  • 5 years of increasingly responsible experience in the server infrastructure and administration fields in a large multinational organization or in a large international corporation, with at least 3 years of related management experience.
  • Strong analytical skills to evaluate solutions and resolve issues. Ability to supervise staff and consultants, make major decisions independently and work well with others.  Ability to work under pressure and prioritize tasks.
  • Broad general knowledge of information technology, with proficient command of the Windows and Linux operating systems. Familiarity with server virtualization technology.
  • A strong knowledge of networking in TCP/IP, routing, network troubleshooting, network protocols (DNS, IMAP, POP3, SMTP, DHCP, SSH, LDAP) and firewall security administration.
  •  Familiarity with network backup software, fiber storage networks and disk arrays including replication and snapshots.
  • Familiarity with the administration of the Messaging and Collaboration systems. Strong knowledge of Google Workspace administration is desirable

Languages: 

Fluency in English is required; knowledge of other official UN languages, preferably French and/or Spanish, is desirable.
