Position Summary:

The post of Regional Security Specialist (RSS) is located in the Arab States Regional Office in Cairo, Egypt and forms an integral part of the management team and is being supported by the Regional Office. Reporting to the Security Coordinator on security policy and technical matters, the Regional Security Specialist will primarily focus on supporting the Regional Director, Representatives and managers with their responsibility for implementation of UN and UNFPA security policy and procedures.  The RSS provides guidance and support in the implementation of in-country security contingency plans in conjunction with the United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS), specifically the Minimum Operating Security Standards (MOSS) and Residential Security Measures (RSM) Review and propose cost effective, pragmatic security solutions to enable UNFPA programmes and projects to be delivered in a safe and secure manner, including mainstreaming staff safety and security risk management in all programmes and operations.  For the support role and related deliverables, the RSS will report to the Regional Director.

Requirements:

Education: 

Advanced university degree in social or political science, law or public administration or equivalent formal training in security and risk management such as military and/or police command staff college.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • 7 years command experience in a police, military or senior commercial security management position.
  • Two years of field experience as a United Nations Field Security Officer, Chief Security Officer or Agency Security Officer.
  • Direct experience in the United Nations Security Management System with proven crisis management capabilities.
  • In-depth Knowledge of UN Security Management System, policies, practices and procedures

Languages:

  • Fluency in English both spoken and written required.
  • Fluency in Arabic, both spoken and written would be an asset, but not required.
