The Programme Assistant will be based at the regional office in Panama City.  The UNFPA Programme Assistant provides research, administrative and logistical support to the programme specialists and supports the implementation, management, monitoring and evaluation of the projects within the Regional Programme Action Plan, under the overall guidance and oversight the direct supervision of the Programme Specialist .

The main responsibilities of the Programme Assistant are: project monitoring and reporting, organization of programme meetings and events, facilitation of knowledge sharing for project development. The Programme Assistant supports the achievement of the 4 expected outcomes of the Regional Action Plan by providing financial and administrative monitoring and reporting, as well as logistical support for project coordination and activities.  Managing and updating data inputs, assisting in the formulation of activities, assisting in project implementation, drafting reports and other documents, and establishing collaborative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, are key aspects. He/she is instrumental in project implementation and budget management ensuring compliance with established systems and procedures. The Programme Assistant also assists in the creation of substantive knowledge by compiling, synthesizing and analyzing information relevant to the programmatic areas of the Regional Action Plan.

Our ideal candidate will have:

Education:   

  • A secondary-school diploma or equivelent is required. University Degree in business management, public administration, social science, public health, international development or related area would be considered a strong asset.

Knowledge and Experience: 

  • 5 years of relevant experience in programme/ project management. Experience in project management in health and/or youth areas will be considered as an advantage
  • Previous experience in development assistance or related work for donor organization, NGO, or UN Agency is a very strong advantage;
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills;
  • Computer literacy - Word, Excel, Power-point, etc. and advance knowledge of spreadsheet and database packages, experience in handling of web based management systems;
  • Sound knowledge and experience in implementing the principles of results based management (RBM);
  • Good knowledge of Atlas / PeopleSoft or other ERP system;
  • Good writing and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and with diverse stakeholders;
  • Excellent drafting skills and demonstrated ability to prepare high quality reports;
  • Fluency in both oral and written English and Spanish is required.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft office and google applications.
