The Logistics Manager post is located in the Djibouti. Under the overall supervision of the UNFPA Representative for Yemen and direct supervision of Deputy Representative, the incumbent will support UNFPA Yemen logistics in Djibouti in the implementation logistics management of UNFPA goods/ supplies. The Logistics manager works in an integrated manner with the other programme and operations staff in UNFPA Yemen as well as Procurement Services Branch (PSB) in Copenhagen.
Job Purpose
Currently, all UNFPA supply is imported to Yemen through Djibouti with support of Humanitarian Logistics hub. Therefore, the primary roles of the Logistics Manager are:
- Logistics Management of UNFPA Yemen Goods/ supplies in Djibouti;
- Representation of UNFPA Yemen in UN Humanitarian Logistics hub in Djibouti and strengthening partnership with other members of UN Humanitarian Logistics hub in Djibouti
- Documenting achievements and lessons learnt
Responsibilities of the Logistics manager include: to support the implementation of the UNFPA Yemen Humanitarian Response Programme; to identify new and emerging needs and optimize delivery modalities logistics management; to develop and maintain partnerships in logistics hub; to ensure that tracking system is updated and all involved staff are informed.
- Logistics Management of UNFPA Yemen Goods/ supplies in Djibouti;
In the areas of expertise:
- to update supply tracking system in consultation with UNFPA Yemen and UNFPA PSB Focal Point;
- fill and timely submit Logistics Cluster’s required forms for the UNFPA kits/ commodities in consultation with UNFPA Yemen, UNFPA Yemen hub in Amman and UNFPA PSB;
- Monitor the lead time of kits/ commodities to Djibouti and from Djibouti to Yemen;
- Facilitate smoothly getting kits/goods in Djibouti airport/ seaport and handling it to Logistics hub for the further shipping to Yemen;
- Timely update UNFPA CO in Sana’a regarding the expected lead time of UNFPA kits/ commodities;
- Provide regular updates for UNFPA SitReps
- Representation of UNFPA Yemen in UN Humanitarian Logistics hub in Djibouti and strengthen partnership with other members of UN Humanitarian Logistics hub in Djibouti
- Represent and actively participate in Logistics Cluster’s work in Djibouti;
- Establish network with Logistics hub in Djibouti;
- Strengthening partnerships with agencies that have broader logistics capacity than UNFPA (WFP, UNICEF, UNHCR, WHO, etc.) in order to facilitate movement of UNFPA commodities.
- Documenting achievements and lessons learnt
- Identify possible gaps in the logistics pipeline and provide input on how to strengthen the logistics chain;
- As appropriate, participate in joint assessments with other agencies/ organizations;
- Develop and share the successful stories;
- Carry out any other duties as requested by Representative and Deputy Representative
Education:
Advanced degree in logistics management or equivalent relevant professional certification in areas such as transport, distribution and supply chain management.
Knowledge and Experience:
- Minimum of five-years of experience in working with logistics programming/ management with UNFPA or other United Nations organization, including in humanitarian settings:
- Managing medical supplies distribution, storage, transportation operations in emergency settings (military, commercial or with an international organization):
- Good knowledge of humanitarian response;
