Gender-Transformative Accelerator

The Global Programme has embraced gender-transformative approaches in Phase II, founded on the evidence that child marriage is both a symptom and a result of deep-seated gender inequalities, and power dynamics. Therefore, ending the practice necessitates a gender transformative approach that actively examines, questions and changes rigid gender norms and imbalances of power to tackle the root causes of gender inequality and reshape unequal power relations.

The Global Programme has developed the GenderTransformative Accelerator (GTA) Tool to facilitate interactive programmatic reflection, collective assessment and action planning through a three-day participatory process. The GTA tool is a self-contained, evidence-informed, process-oriented rapid analysis and action planning tool for implementers, advocates and technical staff working on initiatives to prevent and respond to child, early and forced marriages and unions. The GTA process combines a practical Excel-based worksheet with facilitated discussions designed to provoke reflection between staff and partners about strengths, challenges and opportunities for accelerated action on core dimensions of gender transformative approaches such as: 

1. Adolescent girls’ skills, agency and empowerment, 
2. Addressing masculinities and engaging men and boys, 
3. Family and community mobilization,
4. Systems and services, 
5. Gender norms and stereotypes and,
6. Policy and structural change through institutional partnerships.

The package of GTA documents includes a brief that provides an overview of the tool and the process to use it and a facilitator guide to support the roll-out of the tool. Further, you can access the country reports from the countries where the tool has been implemented.
