United Nations Statistical Commission, 50th session

05 March 2019

UN Headquarters, New York

The United Nations Statistical Commission (UNSC) will hold its 50th session on the theme "Better data, better lives".

The UNSC, established in 1947, is the highest decision-making body of the global statistical system. It brings together the chief statisticians from UN member states around the world.

UNFPA supports countries in their collection of population data, which is crucial to informing long-term developmental strategies and policies and life-saving interventions in humanitarian settings. The Fund is also the UN’s leading agency in providing technical support during all stages of a national population and housing census and helps to ensure the data are widely utilized and disseminated for development.
