Launch of the Humanitarian Action 2024 Overview

12 December 2023

Virtual Event: 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. EST

The world has been ravaged this year by climate emergencies, outbreaks of conflict and the deepening of complex crises. Some 114 million people were displaced in the first half of 2023 alone, half of whom are women and girls with unique vulnerabilities related to their reproductive health and safety. They will face grim prospects next year if leaders do not do more to address humanitarian suffering the world over.

UNFPA is appealing for $1.2 billion in 2024 to provide reproductive health services and to run gender-based violence programmes for 48 million women, girls and young people in 58 countries in humanitarian crises.

UNFPA will be launching the Humanitarian Action 2024 Overview on Tuesday, 12 December, 2023, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. EST. Chaired by UNFPA Executive Director Dr. Natalia Kanem and including a keynote speech by UNFPA Goodwill Ambassador Ashley Judd, the event will bring together donors and partners committed to safeguarding the health, safety, dignity and rights of women and girls. Speakers will highlight humanitarian reproductive health and protection needs in 2024 and showcase UNFPA's humanitarian achievements in 2023.

The event will be broadcast live on UN Web TV.
