A Global Consultation on Sexuality Education

30 November 2010

Bogota, Colombia

More than 90 experts from 29 countries attended the meeting. Some pressing questions were addressed at the meeting: What are the fundamental principles that should frame and guide sexuality education programmes? What outcomes are we trying to achieve and what programmatic strategies are most effective at achieving those outcomes? Barriers are well-known, but what has worked to overcome them?

The expected outcome of the consultation is:

  1. Gaining a common understanding of the state of the art in comprehensive sexuality education programmes both in-school and out of school.
  2. Developing strategies for investing in, implementing, scaling up, monitoring and evaluating effective and sustainable programmes.
  3. Suggesting a limited agenda for evaluation research.

The Global Consultation on Sexuality Education was organized by UNFPA, with the participation of UNESCO, International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF), The Population Council, Family Health International (FHI), UNICEF, PAHO/WHO, among other institutions.
