Executive Board of UNDP, UNFPA and UNOPS: Second Regular Session 2023

28 August 2023

UN Headquarters

“Peace is the most pressing issue of our time and in women’s lives,” UNFPA Executive Director Dr. Natalia Kanem said at the first regular session of the Executive Board earlier this year. “Obviously, peace is fragile. It requires our continuous attention, dialogue, compromise and cooperation.”

The Executive Board will continue the conversation when it holds its second regular session of the year from 28 to 31 August, with the UNFPA segment scheduled for the first day and second morning.

Dr. Kanem will deliver a statement during the morning session of the first day on 28 August. The afternoon session will include a dialogue on gender-based violence in a digital world, with an expert panel addressing the impacts of technology-facilitated gender-based violence and efforts to prevent it. The afternoon session will also include a report on the UNFPA structured funding dialogue 2022–2023.

The next day’s morning session will include the presentation and approval of UNFPA country programme documents and extensions of country programmes.

Documents for the entire session can be found here.

The Executive Board provides intergovernmental support and supervision of the activities of UNFPA, UNDP and UNOPS, in accordance with the policy guidance of the General Assembly, the Economic and Social Council, and the United Nations Charter. The board ensures that UNDP, UNFPA and UNOPS remain responsive to the evolving needs of programme countries, and supports the work of UNFPA in delivering a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every birth is safe, and every young person's potential is fulfilled.
