Executive Board of UNDP, UNFPA and UNOPS: Second Regular Session 2021

The Executive Board holds its second and last regular session of the year, with the UNFPA segment scheduled for 31 August.

After delivering her opening statement, Executive Director Dr. Natalia Kanem will present the 2022 - 2025 Strategic Plan for approval, which builds on the 2018 - 2021 Strategic Plan that envisioned and charted the path toward the three transformative results: zero preventable maternal deaths, zero unmet need for family planning, and zero gender-based violence and harmful practices.

This phase accelerates and scales up the work done so far; COVID-19 may have hobbled efforts, but it also renewed our resolve to reach the goal of universal access to sexual and reproductive health, reproductive rights for all and the fulfillment of the ICPD Programme of Action to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. Work in six areas – policy and accountability, quality of care and services, gender and social norms, population change and data, humanitarian response and adolescents and youth – will address the three zeroes.

As always, the latest Strategic Plan, informed by such trends as climate change, migration, low fertility and ageing and urbanization, has been crafted with human rights at its core in transforming the lives of women and girls the world over.
