30 January 2023

UN Web TV

The Executive Board holds its first regular session of the new year through 3 February. The UNFPA segment begins on 2 February, with a statement from Executive Director Dr. Natalia Kanem in the morning and a discussion of UNFPA engagement in the reform of the United Nations development system in the afternoon. The UNFPA segment continues on 3 February, focusing on UNFPA country programmes in the morning and on other organizational matters—including the adoption of the tentative workplan for the annual session 2023—in the afternoon.

Comprising representatives of 36 countries who serve on a rotating basis, the Executive Board provides intergovernmental support to and supervision of the activities of UNDP, UNFPA, and UNOPS in accordance with the policy guidance of the General Assembly, the Economic and Social Council, and the United Nations Charter. The Executive Board ensures that UNDP, UNFPA, and UNOPS remain responsive to the evolving needs of programme countries, and supports the work of UNFPA in delivering a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every birth is safe, and every young person’s potential is fulfilled.

The Executive Board sessions, of which there are three a year, are broadcast on UN Web TV. In carrying out its work, UNFPA counts on the support, guidance, and counsel of the Executive Board.
