EU-UN Spotlight Initiative High-Level Event: Progress and Perspectives on Eliminating Violence Against Women and Girls

The event will illustrate early results and achievements of Spotlight Initiative programmes to eliminate violence against women and girls, using concrete examples from around the world.

Heads of state, EU and UN leaders will gather on 26 September on the sidelines of the 74th UN General Assembly to review progress made since the 2017 launch of the Spotlight Initiative, a a €500 million global campaign to eliminate all forms of violence against women and girls and achieve significant improvements in their lives. The event will share case studies to demonstrate the value of continued EU-UN partnerships and investments in women and girls, and showcase strong partnerships between Spotlight Initiative and civil society, national governments and regional institutions.

It will include remarks from UNFPA Executive Director Dr. Natalia Kanem and take place at the UN Headquarters in New York from 16:30 to 18:30 pm.
