Consultation on Engaging Men and Boys in Gender Equality and HIV

13 October 2009

Dakar, Senegal

UNFPA is hosting an upcoming Consultation on Engaging Men and Boys in Gender Equality and HIV, Originally scheduled for early September, the meeting has been postponed.

Building on the Rio Call to Action, drafted at the recent Global Symposium on Engaging Men and Boys in Gender Equality in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, UNFPA is embarking on efforts to continue to build a knowledge base on engaging men and boys in programming and policies, in particular, in gender equality and HIV and AIDS.

The aim of the consultation is to share promising practices between UNFPA staff and partners, while identifying ways of strengthening and institutionalizing this area of work, particularly at the policy level.  This exercise will enable building guidance and strategy for engaging men and boys in gender equality and HIV, as per UNFPA’s Strategic Framework on Gender Mainstreaming and Women’s Empowerment as well as the Framework for Action on Adolescents and Youth.
