Bodyright | A new copyright for the human body

Published on: 02/12/2021

Did you know 85% of women with access to the internet reported witnessing online violence, and 38% have experienced it personally?

Women and girls, minorities and marginalized people are most likely to have their images abused online, subjected to demeaning, non-consensual sexual acts.

The “bodyright” campaign, launched today by UNFPA, the United Nations sexual and reproductive health agency, aims to push policy-makers, technology and social media platforms to take the online abuse of bodies, particularly female bodies, as seriously as they do copyright infringements. By adding the ⓑ to their photo, influencers, activists, and any social media user can show their support for ending online violence.
