Inter-Agency Humanitarian Evaluation of the COVID-19 Humanitarian Response

The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 caused a global crisis, impacting health systems, economies, and societies. Vulnerable populations were hit hardest. The pandemic exacerbated existing humanitarian needs and overwhelmed response systems. There are over 758 million confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 7 million deaths, as of February 2023.
3️ years into COVID-19, what have we learned?
The new Inter-Agency Humanitarian Evaluation of the COVID-19 Humanitarian Response assesses the preparedness and response of Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC) members to the COVID-19 pandemic from 2020-2022. It is the first and the largest evaluation of humanitarian response to a pandemic and includes best practices and lessons to step-up response to future global crises. UNFPA Evaluation Office was part of the management group for the evaluation.
The evaluation delivers new evidence on aid mobilization, reaching vulnerable people, preparedness, localization and collaboration for a better humanitarian response during global crises. The evaluation results and recommendations can be utilized by the humanitarian sector at large, including UNFPA, to improve accountability in delivering humanitarian action and responding to global crises.
