Background:

The incumbent works with Member States, UN system entities, Regional Offices and UNFPA Liaison Offices in Geneva and Ethiopia as well as relevant partners to ensure resolutions and outcomes at regional levels and in Geneva and Ethiopia supportive of the ICPD Beyond 2014 and UNFPA corporate positions, including the integration of the ICPD Beyond 2014 into the implementation and review of the SDGs and the standalone reviews of the ICPD in the regions.

She/he will coordinate the flow of information between the Director of the Division and the Team Leader, Global Agenda Branch and relevant parts of the Fund and all relevant partners,  including United Nations Member States and System in order to assist the Division in the development of strategies to guide UNFPA’s advocacy with and positions in inter-agency and inter-governmental processes related to the follow up and review of the 2030 Agenda and the ICPD Beyond 2014 as well as support for UNFPA Regional and Liaison Offices in intergovernmental negotiations.

She/he contributes to the development of new UNFPA strategies and policies to guide UNFPA’s positions in regional inter-governmental and inter-agency coordination processes in the regions, including in the UN Regional Commissions.

She/he informs; influences and maintains the support of delegations for UNFPA’s activities in those regions.

She/he advocates for awareness of and commitment to the ICPD Beyond 2014 among Member States, UN organizations and external partners and ensures the integration of ICPD issues in UN regional processes and outcomes.

Qualifications and Experience
  • Advanced university degree in international relations, diplomacy, political science, management, public administration, communication or equivalent.
  • Seven years professional experience in inter-governmental or inter-agency or governmental or relevant management areas, preferably with exposure to the UN.
  • Strong qualitative and organizational skills;
  • Good writing and presentation skills. 
  • Proficiency in English required. Knowledge of an additional UN language an asset
