Commission on the Status of Women, 56th Session

Commission on the Status of Women, 56th session, will focus on rural women and their role in poverty and hunger eradication, development and current challenges. The two-week meeting, organized by UN Women, includes panels focusing on economic empowerment of rural women, engaging young women and men and girls and boys to advance gender equality and financing for gender equality.

Numerous side events held by UN missions, UN entities and nongovernmental organizations will also be held during the two-week session in the vicinity of the UN.

The Commission on the Status of Women is part of the UN Economic and Social Council and is the principal global policy-making body dedicated to gender equality and advancement of women. Every year, representatives of UN member states gather at UN headquarters in New York to evaluate progress on gender equality, identify challenges, set global standards and formulate concrete policies to promote gender equality and women's empowerment worldwide.
