14 December 2007

UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund, mourns the loss of three of its staff members and all persons who died as a result of Tuesday’s bombing in Algiers.

UNFPA senior management has conveyed condolences to the families of Adnane Souilah, the Fund’s Assistant Representative; Kamel Sait, a National Programme Analyst; and Mustapha Benbara, an administrative and financial official. Algerian by nationality, each one of them is survived by a wife and two children.

All of UNFPA is in pain over the loss of these three very committed colleagues. Our prayers, thoughts and sympathies are with their families and loved ones in these trying times. UNFPA also expresses its condolences to the Algerian people for the losses they have suffered.

Every possible measure is being taken to help affected UNFPA staff and their families.

UNFPA joins the Secretary-General and others in condemning Tuesday’s bombings in Algiers.
