The enslavement of Africans during the Transatlantic Slave Trade tore millions of people away from their families, deprived them of their human rights and left trauma spanning generations. The racist legacy reverberates today in harmful prejudices and beliefs that continue to impact people of African descent across the world.

Executive Board of UNDP, UNFPA and UNOPS: First Regular Session 2024

Launch of the Humanitarian Action 2024 Overview
The world has been ravaged this year by climate emergencies, outbreaks of conflict and the deepening of complex crises. Some 114 million people were displaced in the first half of 2023 alone, half of whom are women and girls with unique vulnerabilities related to their reproductive health and safety. They will face grim prospects next year if leaders do not do more to address humanitarian suffering the world over.

International Day of Persons with Disabilities
One in five women is living with a disability – and they are increasingly championing their rights and breaking barriers around the world, from Rwanda to Myanmar to Yemen. But there is much more to be done. Women and girls with disabilities have the lowest levels of sexual and reproductive health information, leaving them vulnerable to gender-based violence, unintended pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections, among others.
