Strategic Partnerships
Successful sustainable development requires dynamic and inclusive strategic partnerships that involve a variety of stakeholders.
SCROLLStrategic partnerships, which advance the work and position the brand of UNFPA, are inspired by the drive for tangible results under the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. UNFPA has steadily increased partner contributions over the last decade, and in 2020 we collaborated with approximately 100 partners.
Support from our partners allows us to invest in long-term projects around the world and in emergency humanitarian settings.
We work with academia, businesses, philanthropy, civil society and parliamentarians to develop ideas that make best user of their time, expertise, resources and donations.
Our partnerships traditionally fall into four models:
Resource mobilization - to cultivate a robust and differentiated portfolio of donors supporting UNFPA programmes and contributing to organizational sustainability, from financial support to the donation of goods and services
Innovation - to harness the expertise and talent of our partner organizations, including academic institutions, to contribute to new solutions
Reach - to galvanize broad endorsement and visibility of UNFPA as the leading UN agency working to preserve and improve the health and well-being of all people
Alliances - to build political and financial support for the ICPD Programme of Action and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by partnering with civil society organizations and parliamentarians (CSOs)
Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, UNFPA has engaged with private partners globally and at regional and country levels in support of the COVID-19 response, which has addressed urgent needs as well as supported the rebuilding of resilient health systems and communities. From large-scale financial support for maternal and newborn health services in West Africa, to access to contraception for vulnerable communities in Mexico, Thailand, and the Philippines, to strengthening the quality of midwifery training and education, our partners supported us to keep programmes on track. Our partnerships not only support planned programming but help us respond to escalating humanitarian needs around the world.
