UNFPA Venezuela Earthquakes Appeal

Venezuela is facing a major humanitarian emergency following two powerful earthquakes that struck on 24 June 2026. The states most affected include La Guaira, Distrito Capital, Miranda, Carabobo, Yaracuy, Falcón and neighbouring areas.

The loss of livelihoods, disruption of health and protection services, and precarious living conditions—particularly for people residing in temporary shelters—are increasing the risk of gender-based violence and harmful coping mechanisms, especially among women, girls and adolescents.

The health system is under severe strain. Many health facilities have sustained structural damage and are facing critical shortages of medicines, medical equipment and personnel, while disruptions to electricity, water supply and supply chains continue to hamper service delivery.

To respond to the crisis, UNFPA is seeking US$10 million to scale up life-saving sexual and reproductive health services and strengthen gender-based violence prevention and response across the affected areas.

UNFPA is targeting 64,000 people with life-saving sexual and reproductive health services, including emergency obstetric care, antenatal and postnatal care, neonatal care, testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections, family planning services, clinical management of rape, and essential reproductive health information.

In addition, UNFPA is aiming to reach 57,780 people through gender-based violence prevention and response programmes, providing case management, psychosocial support, psychological first aid, the distribution of dignity kits, and awareness sessions on risk mitigation and available support services for survivors.

As humanitarian needs continue to grow, these interventions are critical to protecting the health, rights and dignity of those most at risk, preventing further loss of life, and ensuring continued access to essential care as affected communities recover and rebuild.
