UNFPA Sudan Emergency Situation Report #11 - 06 March 2024

EN

Since the outbreak of conflict in April 2023, 8.1 million people have been displaced in Sudan, with 6.3 million being internally displaced. Among them, over 1.5 million are women and girls of reproductive age, including nearly 150,000 currently pregnant women. UNFPA is deeply concerned about the increasing cases of gender-based violence and the decline in the provision of sexual and reproductive health services.

Humanitarian access is compromised in conflict zones, impacting medical care and the supply of menstrual hygiene products. The suspension of cross-border operations from Chad further limits humanitarian access to the Darfur region. However, recent discussions with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sudan indicate plans to facilitate humanitarian access through various border crossings and airports.

UNFPA is responding by delivering reproductive health kits to obstetric and neonatal care facilities, deploying specialized healthcare service providers and mobile clinics, establishing community referral mechanisms, and supporting safe spaces for women and girls across the country.
