The North-West and South-West regions of Cameroon continue to experience escalating violence and abductions, severely restricting civilian movement and access to essential services. In March alone, more than 5,800 new displacements were recorded across the North-West, South-West, and Far North regions. In the Far North, the influx of displaced populations, combined with the withdrawal of NGOs due to funding shortfalls, has placed additional strain on already overstretched services.
During the same period, the Sexual and Reproductive Health Technical Working Group conducted a mapping of operational actors in the North-West and South-West regions. Of the 29 partners assessed, only eight currently have post-exposure prophylaxis kits, significantly limiting the capacity for effective clinical management of rape cases.
Despite these challenges, UNFPA reached 8,768 people with sexual and reproductive health services through 24 health facilities in March. Gender-based violence prevention and response activities also reached 6,737 people through seven safe spaces, providing awareness sessions, psychosocial support, training for case managers, and strengthened referral pathways.
