Despite the brief period of calm and renewed hopes for dialogue and reconciliation following the Pope’s visit to Cameroon from 15–18 April, the temporary ceasefire quickly gave way to renewed violence, further escalating instability across the country. Attacks by armed groups in the North West, South West, and Far North regions directly heightened protection risks for women and girls, resulting in deaths, kidnappings, displacement, and reports of gender-based violence, including rape.
Against this deteriorating humanitarian backdrop, UNFPA and its implementing partners continued to provide life-saving assistance. During April, 10,024 people were provided with sexual and reproductive health services and 1,271 people were reached with gender-based violence prevention, mitigation and response services across Cameroon.
To sustain and expand these critical interventions in 2026, UNFPA requires US$4 million. To date, US$1.8 million has been secured, leaving a gap of US$2.2 million. Additional funding is urgently needed to ensure the continuity of reproductive health and protection services for women and girls affected by the ongoing crisis.
