Türkiye Earthquake Situation Report #4 - 02 March 2023

In response to the devastating earthquakes that hit Türkiye and Syria, UNFPA is responding to meet the needs of women and adolescent girls and vulnerable people. Of the 15.8 million people affected in Türkiye, 1.7 million are refugees, 2.6 million are youth aged 15-24, and 4.1 million are women of reproductive age. UNFPA estimates that 226,000 women are currently pregnant, with 25,000 expected to give birth within a month.  

  • UNFPA is scaling up its services to reach those in dire need by engaging more mobile teams in earthquake response activities.
  • During this reporting period, around 8,900  individuals were reached with life-saving sexual and reproductive health and gender-based violence support including dignity and maternity kits in Türkiye’s earthquake-affected areas. 
  • UNFPA’s appeal for the earthquake response is $19.7 million with the aim to reach 1.5 million individuals needing life-saving humanitarian support. To date, 23 per cent of the appeal is funded.
