Situation report on the crisis in Yemen (April-June 2026)

Yemen continues to face one of the world's largest and most severe humanitarian crises. More than 22 million people – nearly half of the population – are in need of humanitarian assistance and protection services. Women and girls are disproportionately affected, with 10.95 million across the country requiring urgent support.  

Recent military escalations and political tensions in the country and across the region risk undermining Yemen’s fragile stability. These developments exacerbate an already dire humanitarian situation, marked by acute food insecurity, cuts to humanitarian funding, and collapsing health and protection services.

Since January 2026, UNFPA has provided life-saving reproductive health, protection services, information and emergency relief to nearly 400,000 people. This has been achieved through support to 26 health facilities, 15 safe spaces, three shelters, seven youth spaces and six specialized mental health centres.

In 2026, UNFPA is appealing for US $71.9 million to maintain its critical support for women and girls, in alignment with the Yemen Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan. To date, only US $12.8 million has been received, leaving a funding gap of US $59.1 million (82 per cent).
