Situation report on the crisis in Lebanon (9-22 June 2026)

The humanitarian situation in Lebanon remains volatile despite the United States-Iran Memorandum of Understanding signed on 15 June and broader regional de-escalation efforts. Hostilities continue across the country, particularly in southern Lebanon and the Bekaa governorate. Women and girls are bearing the brunt of the crisis, facing heightened protection and gender-based violence (GBV) risks, disrupted health services including for maternal health, and reduced access to safe and dignified support.

On 20 June, a social worker from UNFPA’s partner Amel Association was killed along with her son and parents in an airstrike in the Bekaa. Since 2 March 2026, more than 4,100 people have been killed and 12,115 injured, with 5,346 casualties reported since the ceasefire announcement in April 2026.

Since the onset of the crisis, UNFPA has reached more than 135,000 displaced people with sexual and reproductive health and GBV services. These have been delivered through support to 55 health facilities, nine mobile medical units, 24 mobile GBV teams, and 17 women and girls’ safe spaces, serving 200 collective shelters and host communities.

UNFPA launched a revised Flash Appeal in June, aligned with the revised Inter-Agency Lebanon Flash Appeal appealing for US $25 million to meet the urgent needs of 450,000 people from March to August 2026. To date, only 16 per cent of the required funding has been secured.
