The humanitarian situation in Haiti continues to deteriorate amid the increasing scale and intensity of violence associated with armed gangs. More than 2,600 people were recently displaced following attacks by armed gangs on 23 August 2026 in the municipality of Kenscoff, in the West Department. In addition, approximately 6,250 people were displaced by violence that began on 6 July 2026 in the municipalities of Dessalines and Petite-Rivière, in Haiti’s Artibonite Department.
Women and girls have been particularly affected by the crisis and face heightened risks of sexual violence. Access to medical care for survivors within the critical first 72 hours remains limited, particularly in frontline and conflict-affected areas.
UNFPA continued to deliver sexual and reproductive health and gender-based violence services to affected populations where access was possible. Between July and August, UNFPA and its implementing partners reached 15,191 people with sexual and reproductive health services and 3,483 people with GBV prevention, mitigation, and response activities. In addition, 1,547 women and girls benefited from psychosocial support and 700 received dignity kits.
UNFPA requires US$32.8 million to strengthen and expand access to life-saving reproductive health and protection services in Haiti. As of August, only US$4 million—just 12 per cent of the total funding required—had been received. As humanitarian needs continue to escalate, urgent additional funding is needed to sustain and expand these critical services for women and girls.
