On 3 September, hostilities escalated along the frontlines in Ta’iz Governorate, extending to areas of Yemen’s West Coast by 5 September. As of 7 September, nearly 40,000 people had been displaced, with population movements continuing. Displaced women, children and adolescent girls face heightened protection and health risks after being forced to flee suddenly, often without essential belongings or supplies.
Shelling, insecurity and disruptions to telecommunications continue to constrain humanitarian access. Despite these challenges, nine UNFPA-supported reproductive health facilities and five women and girls’ safe spaces remain operational, alongside community midwife deployments across Ta’iz and the West Coast. However, access to essential maternity care remains a critical concern for communities near displacement sites.
The UNFPA-led and European Union Humanitarian Aid-funded Inter-Agency Rapid Response Mechanism has been activated, delivering emergency relief kits to nearly 13,000 people as of 7 September. UNFPA requires US$2.2 million over the next six months to scale up its response and address the urgent needs of women, girls and young people in the conflict-affected areas.
