Framework for Action on Adolescents and Youth

Opening Doors with Young People: 4 Keys

No. of pages: 46

Publication Date: 2007

Author: UNFPA

UNFPA’s Framework for Action on Adolescents and Youth articulates a corporate strategy for working with Governments and partners in promoting the comprehensive development of young people worldwide. At a time when the global community is increasingly focused on poverty reduction and broader national development goals, the Framework outlines UNFPA’s policy and programme priorities on young people and its contributions with others to the development agenda.

This Framework lays out the key elements that every UNFPA-supported adolescent and youth programme should have, while recognizing their diverse needs and regional and country-level variations. The "Four Keys" guiding UNFPA's efforts include: creating a supportive policy environment; facilitating gender-sensitive, life skills-based SRH education; promoting a core package of SRH services; and fostering young people's leadership and participation.
