United Nations Population Award Ceremony to Honour Bill & Melinda Gates, Asian Parliamentarians

UNITED NATIONS, New York — Winners of the 2010 United Nations Population Award will receive their awards this week at an official ceremony at the organization’s headquarters. The laureates were chosen by the Committee for the United Nations Population Award from among 30 international nominees for their outstanding work in population and in improving the health and welfare of individuals. The Committee includes 10 United Nations Member States, with UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund, serving as its secretariat.

WHO:

The 2010 Laureates:

  • William Henry Gates III and Melinda French Gates (represented by William H. Gates, Sr., Co-Chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation)
  •  Asian Forum of Parliamentarians on Population and Development (represented by Yasuo Fukuda, former Prime Minister of Japan)

Hosts:

  • Asha-Rose Migiro, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations
  • Thoraya Ahmed Obaid, Executive Director of UNFPA

WHERE : Conference Room 4, North Lawn Building, United Nations, New York.
