UNFPA Executive Director Dr. Natalia Kanem welcomes release of girls abducted from Dapchi, Nigeria

21 March 2018

I am happy to learn of today’s release of some of the girls who had been abducted by insurgents in Dapchi, Nigeria. Like their families and community, I am deeply concerned about their physical and emotional well-being after their ordeal.

UNFPA remains committed to working with the Government to provide emergency medical care, psychosocial counselling and other support to these survivors.

UNFPA has not forgotten the thousands of women, children and others still held by insurgents. The Fund condemns all forms of violence against women and girls and calls for the immediate release of all those still in captivity. Abductions, sexual abuse, forced marriage, murder and all other crimes against humanity must end.
