UNFPA Executive Director Visits Europe

UNFPA Executive Director Dr. Babatunde Osotimehin met with development ministers, government officials, members of parliament and civil society representatives on his visit to Denmark, Germany and Luxembourg this week.

While in Denmark, he met with the recently appointed Minister for Development Cooperation, Mr. Christian Friis Bach, and gave media interviews about the upcoming milestone of world’s population reaching 7 billion. In Denmark, he also discussed the importance of gathering support to ICPD beyond 2014.

In Germany, Dr. Osotimehin met with Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, Mr. Dirk Niebel, and gave a keynote address at the 9th International Dialogue on Population and Sustainable Development. He was also interviewed by weekly newspaper Die Ziet and television channel Russia Today.

In Luxembourg, UNFPA Executive Director met with Minister for Development Cooperation Humanitarian Affairs, Ms. Marie-Josée Jacobs. In a joint press conference, the Minister and Dr. Osotimehin discussed health of women and girls and joint efforts to end obstetric fistula and female genital mutilation/cutting.
