State of World Population 2013 Launches Worldwide

  • 31 October 2013

The State of World Population 2013 , UNFPA's flagship report, was launched in cities around the world on 30 October.

The report, entitled Motherhood in Childhood: Facing the Challenge of Adolescent Pregnancy, examines the main challenges of adolescent pregnancy and provides new statistics on its serious impacts on girls’ education, health and future economic productivity. It also shows what can be done to curb this trend and protect girls’ human rights and well-being.

"The aim of UNFPA’s State of World Population 2013 is to provoke a new way of thinking about and tackling adolescent pregnancy and to encourage a shift away from interventions targeted at girls towards broad-based approaches that build girls’ human capital, protect girls’ rights and empower them to make decisions," said UNFPA Executive Director Dr. Babatunde Osotimehin in his statement at the principal launch event in London.
