The Position:

The Project Manager provides technical support to meet the data needs of UNFPA in the areas of population dynamics and projections, population estimates relevant to UNFPA programming. With funding from Russia, you will implement  a project titled “Strengthening population data collection, analysis and utilization for evidence-based policy making in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS)” under the direct supervision of the International Programme Coordinator based in Almaty and the overall direction of the Advisor, Population and Development, Regional office based in Istanbul. You will play a leadership role in the management, coordination, implementation and monitoring of the project.

While the position is managerial, the Project Manager is expected to have solid technical knowledge in a majority of the technical elements that are outlined in this job description. Many of the functions described below will be implemented with technical implementing partners.

Education:

Advanced university degree (Post-graduate university degree or equivalent) in the quantitative social sciences, such as statistics, demography, sociology, economics or related discipline is required*

*The graduate or post graduate degree should be directly related to the substantive area identified in the post.

Knowledge and Experience:

5 years of progressively responsible professional experience in data collection, analysis, visualization, dissemination, database management and research within an academic or development institution

Mastery of methods and techniques for data quality assessment, processing and analysis using a variety of health and population sources (DHS, MICS and population census)

Strong knowledge of statistical methodologies, including strong competencies in the use of statistical packages such as R, STATA or SPSS.

Strong interpersonal communication skills

Excellent report writing and compelling oral presentations

Knowledge of programme management, development and budgeting procedures

Familiarity with the UN system is desirable

Languages:

Fluency in English and Russian is required; knowledge of another CIS countries an advantage.
