The Position:                                

The Reproductive Health Commodity Security Specialist post is located in the Arab States Regional Office (ASRO) and reports to the Regional RH Advisor, working in coordination with the Regional RH specialist.

S/He will be responsible for analyzing and identifying gaps in RHCS in the region, both in development and humanitarian contexts, building the capacity of the COs in related issues and coordinating technical assistance to regional/national counterparts. S/He will also be responsible for the management of the family planning supplies’ Thematic Trust Fund at the regional level and oversee their implementation in the respective COs.

You will report directly to the Regional RH Advisor.

Job Purpose:

UNFPA  works with national governments to strengthen or establish secure, reliable, cost-effective, and sustainable systems to ensure supply of and demand for a wide range of reproductive health commodities: including contraceptives and condoms, maternal health and STIs related drugs.

The Technical Specialist in RHCS will support UNFPA  COs in the Arab Region to analyze RH national commodity security and supplies systems, and coordinate support for improving the design of the RH commodity logistics systems in line with the health priorities defined by the national institutions in coordination with the UNFPA COs and in line with UNFPA global guidance and strategic directions.

Education: Advanced university degree in pharmacy, procurement, logistics, supply chain management. Professional and logistics qualifications in procurement an asset. Advanced training in supplies management, strategic procurement and logistics of medical supplies, essential drugs’ management, and Management Information Systems is a plus. 

 Knowledge and Experience:

  • At least 2 years of experience in increasing responsibilities in Reproductive Health Commodity Security, ideally, in logistics systems, public sector pharmaceutical supplies management, including experience in developing countries with direct experience relating to health and logistics systems and management of family planning programmes. Experience in public sector pharmaceutical program management at national level, especially in policy & management, Selection, Access, Quality Assurance and Rational Drug Use is strongly desired. 
  • Extensive knowledge of supply management: forecasting, warehousing, distribution, transportation, logistics information systems and eLMIS. 
  • Health  sector-specific experience, including: Experience with Public Health systems in developing countries, Health Commodity Supply Market, Logistics and inventory management related to pharmaceuticals and medical supplies, based on sound Supply Chain Management principles 
  • Experience working in humanitarian or fragile contexts is a plus.

Language:

Excellent written and oral communications skills. Fluency in English is required; knowledge of Arabic or French is an asset.
