This post is located in the Intergovernmental, Interagency and Policy Dialogue Branch (IIPDB) of the Policy and Strategy Division (PSD) and reports directly to the IIPDB Branch Chief who provides overall strategic direction.

Job Purpose:

The Political and Environmental Scanning Advisor will play a critical role in supporting the Organization in delivering its mandate by providing leadership in the roll-out of a new political environmental scanning system and analysis of the impact on the strategic interests of the organization in the context of the 2030 Agenda. Additionally, s/he will serve as the principal advisor on partnerships with faith-based organizations and faith-inspired actors to promote social norm changes that support the achievement of transformative results outlined in the Strategic Plan. The Political and Environmental Scanning Advisor will support the strategic positioning of UNFPA in the areas of faith, religion and their linkages with reproductive health and rights, working closely with faith-based organizations and other key partners within and beyond the UN system to advance UNFPA’s mandate following up on the Nairobi Summit on ICPD25. 

Qualifications and Experience  

Education:  

Advanced university degree in Social Sciences, Political Science, International Relations or other relevant fields. 

Knowledge and Experience: 

•    At least 10 years of relevant and increasingly responsible professional experience in development and multilateral affairs, of which 4 years at the international level. 
•    Experience in implementation of environmental scanning and analysis of complex socio-economic and human rights issues is an asset.
•    Experience working with faith and religious organizations as it relates to ICPD Plan of Action and the SDGs is desirable.
•    Knowledge of international development policies and institutions, ICPD agenda and understanding of human rights approaches.
•    Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as proven experience in environmental scanning, analysis and reporting.
•    Innovative and sound judgment.
•    Field experience is desirable.

Languages:  

Fluency in English is required; knowledge of other official UN Languages is an asset.
