The Position

The Census Project Coordinator will ensure and contribute to the effective and efficient implementation of the Census Trust Fund (TF) project by UNFPA Country Office in Mozambique, related to the IVth Population Census in Mozambique. He/she will lead an interdisciplinary team that provides integrated programme and technical support to the National Statistics Office (INE), including strong and dynamic collaboration with government counterparts and other national and international partners supporting the project. The Coordinator will oversee the timely implementation of the project’s workplan as detailed in the project document (PRODOC), and ensure the that completed activities are in line with national priorities, principles and recommendations for Population and Housing Censuses of the United Nations Statistics Division, donor focus, and with UNFPA policies and procedures. S/he reports directly to the Assistant Representative, under the overall guidance of the Deputy Representative and the Representative, and works in close collaboration with the Population and Development Technical Advisor.

Qualifications and Experience

Education: 

Advanced degree in demography, statistics, social development, and/or other related social science field.

Knowledge and experience:

  • 5 years of increasingly responsible professional experience managing/coordinating national projects or its components;
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in working with government institutions, bilateral/multilateral development organization and/or UN;
  • Strong quantitative data analysis skills;
  • Excellent knowledge on partnership building, donor coordination and result based management/reporting;

Languages:

Excellent oral and written communication in English and Portuguese.

Computer Skills:

Proficiency in the latest office software applications, including those used for Census data processing.
IT ability to familiarize with ERP system (e.g. PeopleSoft, SAP) or other web-based integrated system.
